Horror as 3 children found dead

By Charlene Wilson & Robert Wight

TWO police probes were launched last night after four people, including three children, were found dead in separate incidents.

Police in Fife were last night investigating a double murder following the discovery of two bodies in a house in Buckhaven.

The body of a disabled woman in her mid-20s and a young male child around five years old, who are believed to be brother and sister, were found at a house on Methilhaven Road close to the Buck & Hind Pub at around 7.30 pm.

A man in his 40s was also said to be receiving treatment for his injuries in Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospital.

It is understood the injured man is the father of both children.

Forensic investigations

The house where the bodies were found and the house next door were both cordoned off by police while forensic investigations got under way.

Methilhaven Road was closed from East Wemyss, while the adjacent Percival Road, which leads to the busy Standing Stane Road, was also closed to all traffic.

It is understood the family moved to the area around four years ago.

A neighbour who asked not to be named said, “The whole street is in shock. We just can’t believe this has happened.”

Another witness said, “The first we heard about it was around 8 pm when two police cars turned up.

“A few of us went outside and saw a woman being led out by police covered in a blanket.

Shock

“She seemed to be in shock and was shaking.”

Another neighbour said, “The whole street is in shock. This is usually a very quiet street with rarely any problems, so for something like this to have happened is just unbelievable.”

Speaking outside the scene of the tragedy, Buckhaven Councillor Andrew Rodger said he was “absolutely shocked” to hear of the double murder.

“It’s just impossible to comprehend and my thoughts are with the victims of this terrible tragedy.”

A Fife Police spokesman confirmed that a murder investigation was under way and said that more details would follow in due course.

Head of crime management Alistair McKee refused to confirm whether the victims were related but said a double murder investigation was “certainly under way”.

“Police were called to the house at 7.10 pm and discovered the bodies of a 26-year-old woman and a child thought to be five or six.

Stable

A man in his late 40s was subsequently taken to Queen Margaret’s Hospital where his condition is stable.”

He added that a full forensic investigation was under way which was expected to continue well into today.

“We are interviewing a number of people who were at or nearby the house at the time of the incident but nobody has been charged at this stage.”

Meanwhile, the bodies of two young boys were discovered in a parked car outside Lennoxtown in Glasgow.

The two boys were aged just two and six. The car was discovered on Crow Road.

Strathclyde Police say they are treating the deaths as suspicious.

Inspector Jan Connolly said, “Police are investigating the suspicious death of two children aged two and six.

“They were found this evening within a parked car. Police are following a positive line of inquiry.”

Locals were stunned as the news of the deaths filtered through.
One said, “It was awful to hear what happened. We’re all in shock. It’s a quiet place and you don’t expect things like this.”
