Help us to help them

Aimee inspired the
whole school

By Paul Hastie
WHEN GIFFNOCK Primary School in Glasgow decided to hold an impromptu whip-round for CHAS, they found they had deeper pockets than anyone expected.
Over the course of a single week, pupils, parents and staff collected an impressive £550 for our hospice appeal.
They were inspired by little Aimee Galloway, who sadly passed away in Rachel House just before Christmas.

Aimee’s grandfather Willie Bell is the janitor at the school — so staff were moved to go without their usual festive treats, and instead help CHAS in her memory.
Dug deep
The staff’s traditional card-giving and secret Santa went out the window and instead they dug deep for charity.
Later in the week, the PTA’s carol concert saw all proceeds go into the CHAS pot.
Finally, a collection at the Christmas church service saw even more cash roll in. When it was all counted, the grand total was £553.25.
Head teacher Janice Colquhoun was very pleased with her school’s efforts.
She said, “It’s wonderful that everyone has pitched in — pupils, parents and staff.
“When the staff heard about Aimee’s death they thought a collection would be a nice gesture. We didn’t really publicise this to the children, but it was an opportunity for them to learn about CHAS and the work it does. It’s great everyone managed to push themselves to give a bit more over Christmas.”
Victoria Cartwright from CHAS visited the school earlier this month to pick up the cheque. She said, “I’m delighted they raised so much, considering nothing had been organised. Everyone joined in and just gave what they could.”
