Raise a glass to the
Toby Jug

THE BARFLIES of Paisley have made sure our campaign is off to a great start in 2005. Kind-hearted staff and regulars of the Toby Jug, in Paisley’s Lawn Street, raised £1250 with a number of events for CHAS, including a bikini wax for some of the unlucky male punters.

The Toby Jug regulars are rightly very proud of their cheque.

Regular Alex Dornan (57), explained, “We started off by winding up Dawn, one of the barmaids.
“She’s scared of spiders and when someone dropped a pound coin behind a table we told her the money was there if she wanted it. But we added that we’d spotted a big spider down there too!
“She wouldn’t pick it up, so we added more money to tempt her. It got to about £20 before she went for it! No-one wanted the money back, so we put it in a dish for charity. That’s how we started collecting.”
The Toby Jug has been owned by Dawn Wishart (31) and Rosemary Hooper (40) for two years. Rosemary explained, “We have a great bunch here. That’s why the effort to raise money was such a success.
“We had a coin toss with a whisky bottle and the proceeds went to CHAS. Plus a bucket on the bar for everyone’s spare change. We kept the price of a pint to under £2 so everyone could put change in.
My partner Dawn also took part in a sponsored skydive with another of the regulars. That was surprising as she’s terrified of heights!”
So raise a glass to the drinkers and staff at the Toby Jug — cheers for the brilliant effort!
