Texas stampede
got auction going
By Paul Hastie
AN AMAZING assortment of items were going, going, gone for our Hospice Appeal last week, sending our CHAS total up, up up!
An Internet auction run by Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries shopping centre raised an impressive £1539 for our campaign.
The items were displayed for shoppers inside the centre, and bids could be made through auction website ebay.co.uk
The prize item was a platinum disc awarded to Scots band Texas for their
Greatest Hits album, donated by lead singer Sharleen Spiteri.
Whopping £560
It had a starting price of £200, but ended up fetching a whopping £560 as Texas fans stampeded to get their hands on it.
But it should be worth it, because Sharleen will personally sign the disc for the winning bidder.
Another big hitter was the official Manchester United football signed by the first team — including the departed David Beckham.
It had a starting price of £150, but closed at £320. At that price, it’s certain the lucky owner won’t be taking it for a kick-about in the park.
But there was more for football fans. Rangers supporters battled it out for a framed and signed team shirt, which was eventually secured for £134.
And one delighted Blackburn Rovers follower will be taking home a signed team shirt for £72.
Obi Wan Kenobi
Scots film star Ewan McGregor also did his part for the auction. A signed DVD of his
Star Wars Episode 1 film reached a cool £100 — leaving one Obi Wan Kenobi fan very happy.
A number of other items, including signed photos, music CDs and a limited edition Keith Hill print, brought in the final total.
Annette Paterson, customer services manager at Buchanan Galleries, was delighted. She said, “Throughout the year, staff, retailers and shoppers have tried to raise as much money as possible to help build a second hospice for CHAS.
“The auction helped us to raise a substantial amount for Robin House, as well as attracting a great deal of interest from people keen to get their hands on the highly sought-after items.”
