Buchanan Galleries cements relationship between shoppers
and the new hospice

Can we build it? —
Yes
we can

OUR appeal to build a new hospice has really made people put their thinking caps on. Our fund-raisers are constantly coming up with innovative ideas.
Now one of Scotland’s biggest and busiest shopping centres has joined our campaign.
The management of Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries, backed by the UK’s biggest retail names, has come up with an ingenious way to encourage shoppers to join in the campaign — by selling bricks!
No, they’re not encouraging the 100,000 shoppers who stroll through the mall every week to throw them through shop windows.

Buchanan Galleries.

Hamish Millar, the shopping centre manager, explained he’s eager to cement a relationship between the centre, shoppers and CHAS.
And he’s involving all the businesses in the centre in the bid to raise money for our hospice appeal.
Run by the Buchanan Partnership, the three-year-old mall has become one of the most popular shopping centres in Scotland and home to more than 80 stores including Next, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Morgan, Costa Coffee, Clinton Cards, Gap, Levis, Natural World and H&M.
Hamish said, “Building the new hospice is all about helping kids with real problems. We want them to be as comfortable and happy as possible. So we came up with an idea of the ‘buy a brick’ initiative.
“Shoppers will be able to buy a virtual brick for £1 at designated spots in the mall.
“We’re delighted to support such a brilliant charity. CHAS and The Sunday Post are doing a fantastic job.”
We’ll keep you posted
The initiative will kick off in two weeks and we’ll keep you posted on how you can buy the charity bricks.
Throughout the rest of the year, the Buchanan Partnership is planning a number of other activities in the centre as part of their support for our campaign, and we’ll feature their efforts as they happen.
Their first instalment, along with the brick initiative, will be a “progress board” stationed on the mall’s walkways, showing shoppers step-by-step photos of how CHAS’s new hospice in Balloch will develop, highlighting where the money raised in the Buchanan Galleries is going.
Hamish said, “The display will be like a newsletter from CHAS to our shoppers with site photographs updated on a regular basis.”
Ellen McCartney, assistant to the merchandise manager at John Lewis said, “CHAS is fantastic because it gives families opportunities, especially with some kids so ill, to take mum and dad and the family somewhere nice for a few days.
“It’s so worthwhile. Just reading about some of the children in The Sunday Post brought tears to my eyes.”
Shona Cardle, CHAS fund-raising manager, is delighted Buchanan Galleries has come on board.
She said, “So many people pass through Buchanan Galleries every week and the fact some of them may now help The Sunday Post CHAS Appeal is absolutely wonderful.”
We’re sure our readers will help Buchanan Galleries build towards their target — brick by brick.
