Janet has put more than a few drops in the ocean
Then, last July, the same bunch raised a further £2000 when they held a charity dance at Hearts FC’s Tynecastle stadium.
Their latest venture came two weeks ago when Janet and her kind-hearted pals added another
£1800 to our appeal’s swelling coffers when they held a hugely successful auction in The Edinburgh Masonic Club.
“Among other things, we auctioned off two signed photos of Ewan McGregor, a signed Hibs football, a Hearts shirt and a Saltire flag signed by the Scottish rugby team,” explains Janet.
“The night was a great success and I’d like to thank all those involved in setting it up as well as the 160 people who attended.
“It brings the total we’ve raised to more than £5000, which is wonderful.
“I know the new hospice is costing a huge amount to build and the funds we’ve raised are just a drop in the ocean, but every penny counts. It’s important people remember that.”
A regular worker with terminally-ill children at a special needs school in the capital, Janet knows more than most just how vital the new Robin House hospice will be to Scotland.
That’s why she has no intention of bringing her fund-raising exploits to a halt just yet.
“Two of the children in our school, Robert and James Ness, attend Rachel House, so we know all about CHAS. It’s such a worthwhile charity and very close to our hearts.
“Ali often mentions how nice it is to go to Rachel House and discuss issues with other parents who are in a similar situation.
“It’s such a beautiful, uplifting place and I’m sure the new hospice will be the same.” |
