Dalziel song selection said it all
By Euan Duguid

RAVENSCRAIG HAS long since disappeared from the Motherwell landscape, but pupils in the town’s Dalziel High put on a glowing show of red-hot talent to raise £1000.
With nerves of true steel, S4 to S6 pupils put on an astounding cavalcade of singing and dancing in the school’s end of term show.
Senior pupils are divided alphabetically into three houses — Barclay, Colville and Greig — and pit their performing skills against each other on a specific theme while competing for the Choral Shield.
This year, their efforts at Motherwell Civic Centre were fuelled by the knowledge that they were helping raise funds for our appeal to build the second children’s hospice at Loch
Lomond.
Modern languages teacher Angela Bradley, head of the fund-raising panel, enthused, “The shield preparations are always thorough and intense but the pupils had added motivation this year.
“Many of them were touched by the plight of the children in Rachel House and are aware of the need for a new hospice, so we decided to donate 50p from every ticket.”
Barclay selected a TV theme, Colville’s show was Full Of Love and Greig focused on Magical Musical Memories and a variety of acts, ensembles and spine-tingling solos left the capacity audiences exhilarated.
Songs such as Searching My Soul (the Ally McBeal theme tune), Love Shack and Beauty And The Beast got great ovations. But there could only be one winner and it was Greig who impressed the judges most and lifted the shield.

Despite the competitive nature of the event, Ms Bradley emphasised the show was a collective effort. She said, “There’s a great buzz about the school as all the houses were determined to win. However I think the last song on each production summed up this year’s show.
“With the Barclay cast singing I’ll Be
There For You, the Friends TV show theme, Colville doing Can You
Feel The Love Tonight? and Greig performing We Go Together from
Grease, there was a definite message for the children of Rachel
House.”
Head
teacher Brian Miller said, “The pupils have poured their hearts
and souls into making their involvement in the Choral Shield a
memorable one. I am very, very proud of each and every one and the
fact they have put every effort into raising cash for such a vital
appeal.” |
