Help us to help them

A matter of pride at Pitney Bowes

By Euan Duguid

GLOBAL COMPANY Pitney Bowes is renowned for powering business with its mailing equipment and the multinational firm used some of that power to give our hospice campaign a boost — by donating £2500.
The firm, which has branches in 130 countries, manufactures products from franking machines to envelope printers but has always been determined to deliver the goods for worthy charities.

Previous beneficiaries include Hurricane Andrew victims and September 11 relatives.
But the branch at Strathclyde Business Park in Bellshill decided to get behind our cause.
Manager Wilma Norton explained how her staff felt compelled to get involved in The Sunday Post Hospice Challenge.
She said, “I’m a Sunday Post reader and the CHAS appeal really caught my attention.
“It was something all my colleagues were aware of and wanted to help.
“Our HQ in Harlow approached us asking what charity we would like to give to in Scotland, so we suggested CHAS.”
The company has several well-established means for employees to donate funds.
One is the Pitney Bowes Employee Giving Campaign, which allows workers to make a monthly contribution from their salary to a fund, which is then distributed to charities of their choice.
Donations are made before tax and the company then matches payroll deductions by 50 per cent.
Wilma said, “Although our firm has branches all over the world, as far afield as Asia, Africa and the Middle East, we are very community-minded.
“Donating some of your wage to the charity fund is something you never really think about, but there is a sense of achievement when you are in the position to help out.
“Although none of us has run a marathon or braved white-water rapids, we are proud to have helped The Sunday Post and your very worthy appeal.”
