Help us to help them

What? Generous
tax collectors!

YOUNG VICTORIA Brake made a splash for our campaign. The 13-year-old pupil at Broxburn Academy has family friends whose grandson attends the existing hospice, Rachel House.
She was inspired to help and decided on a sponsored swim. Victoria asked friends, family and neighbours to help out and mum Avril even took sponsor forms into work at the Inland Revenue — and the tax collectors belied their popular image and dug deep.
Victoria completed 22 lengths of Broxburn swimming pool and raised more than £230. So it’s a big thanks to Victoria for her efforts and the generous folk at the Inland Revenue — who’d have thought you’d ever read that sentence!

£2815 readathon
FORFAR ACADEMY pupils became bookworms in the name of CHAS to raise a fantastic £2815.
Around 800 pupils took part in a readathon by digesting two books each. Although the school initially hoped to raise £1100 (£1 for each pupil) assistant principal English teacher Elma Reid explained that once the children knew exactly what they were fund-raising for, their determination ensured it was a spectacular success.
Elma said, “When we saw the CHAS appeal in The Sunday Post, it was something we were keen to get involved in. Three pupils and two teachers visited Rachel House to find out a bit more about the work of the hospice and found it a tremendously moving experience.
“I wrote up a piece about our trip and the children were very interested. Pupils in all years were determined to help and quickly organised sponsorship and donations, which were collected by the English department. We were delighted to reach £2815 and it was fantastic to present a cheque to a representative of CHAS at our prize-giving.”

£4000 walk
ON A wet, muddy Sunday morning a team of ASDA colleagues set out from the Bishopbriggs store with a mission to walk 26 miles. Alex Orr, team leader in the store’s chill area, organised the walk for CHAS. And 17 ASDA colleagues and their friends and family took part. The walk led from the ASDA Bishopbriggs store, along the Forth and Clyde Canal, past the Millennium Wheel at Falkirk and finally to the supermarket chain’s Grangemouth depot. Altogether, £4000 was raised.

£1375 music
MEMBERS OF Dull & Weem Parish Church flocked to a feast of music old and new by local organist Ian A. Caskie and the Aberfeldy & District Gaelic Choir, to raise the heavenly sum of £1375. Then the choir, conducted by Frances McCallum, kept the audience spellbound.
Bringing the evening to a close, the organ, choir and audience raised the roof with a spirited rendition of Welsh favourite Cwm Rhondda.

£142 shirt
Thanks to the Springwell Inn Tartan Army Brigade, from Kirkintilloch, for £142 raised from the raffle of an England shirt and lighter donated by friends from Granby Road Working Men’s Club, in Edlington, near Doncaster.
