Help us to help them

Try the magic yourself

ABERDEEN MUSIC HALL may be built from granite, but that didn’t stop The Commitments bringing down the house for our appeal — and we’d like you to share the fun.
The combination of sweet soul music and the foot-stompin’ sell out crowd didn’t just shake the foundations of the historic hall, but raised an estimated £5000 for our own block-busting act.

One of The Commitments singers,
Karen Coleman, belts out another soulful number
for our cause.

The night closed with a standing ovation for the world famous band, but the unsung star was school secretary Anne McIver, from the Black Isle.
Modest Anne, who works at Avoch primary, explained, “My friends Edith McKnight, Margaret Blair and I usually hold a fund-raiser every year for cancer research but we were so touched by the stories in The Sunday Post about the hospice children that we were compelled to help.
“We’ve worked with music promoter Mark Lundquist before and organised concerts in Inverness featuring bands like The Drifters and The Commitments and as usual he was only too willing to help out.
“The band themselves are brilliant. I think it speaks volumes of them when, despite all their success, they are still prepared to fight for the things that really matter when it would be easy to sit back.
“The real heroes are the children of Rachel House and their families and the families who will benefit from the new hospice at Balloch.
“They are an inspiration to us all and we are extremely proud to be part of The Sunday Post Appeal.”
If you’d like to relive the magic of last week’s gig, we have 10 of The Commitments And Friends Committed To Soul CDs to give away — all you have to do is answer this question:
The Commitments regularly raise the roof with the song In The Midnight Hour. But who originally sang it? Was it A — Wilson Pickett. B — James Brown. Or C — Barry White?
Send your answer, on a postcard, to Commitments Competition, The Sunday Post, PO Box 6808, Dundee, DD1 9YG.
