Help us to help them

We did run, run, run . . .
We did run, run

By Euan Duguid

OKAY, SO it’s a lousy pun on the 1963 song by The Crystals, but it’s a great motto for 20 staff members of Castlemilk Health Centre who burst through the pain barrier in the recent Women’s 10k road race in Glasgow to raise £1120.
Dedication and discipline were the key ingredients for the health-conscious team, which included GPs, administrative staff and nurses.

Jenny Wilson. Middle — Eleanor Scott and
Michelle Muirhead. Front — Sharron McGuire,
 Irene Cosgrove and Christine Patterson.

But, according to receptionist Christine Patterson, everyone was driven to succeed by our appeal.
Christine said, “I’m an avid reader of The Sunday Post and have been particularly touched by the stories of the children at Rachel House.
“To decide which good cause the team would support, we each put the name of our chosen charities into a hat and I was delighted when CHAS was picked.”
With the knowledge that they were running for the children, the health workers set about training and collecting sponsorship money with vigour.
“In preparing for the race, we all supported each other — there was a real buzz around the office — and our training regimes were often the main point of discussion,” Christine explained.
“Just before we started the race we were all very excited and perhaps a little nervous, but it was great having so many people to share your feelings with.
“Our energy was definitely infectious because on the day, the staff, family and friends who came out to support us were fantastic and really vocal. It helped us to get over the line and I would like to thank them all.
“The highlight of the day was when we finished the race and realised we had helped such a worthy cause.
“We are all extremely proud to be part of The Sunday Post’s appeal.”
