Help us to help them

A night that will be
a real knockout

By Colin Grant

TWO OF Britain’s best-loved comedians have joined forces to make a major contribution to our hospice appeal.
Jeremy Beadle and Jim Davidson are to co-host a charity boxing dinner in Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel later this year — with all proceeds going to our campaign.
The gala event, certain to be a sell-out, will be a Scotland versus England contest featuring four professional boxers from each country.
It’s the brainchild of the Philip Green Memorial Trust, which has pledged £250,000 for the new hospice at Loch Lomond.
The Trust, which lists among its patrons sports legends Lennox Lewis, Sir Henry Cooper, Frankie Dettori and Vinnie Jones, is committed to providing the new hospice with a hydrotherapy pool identical to the one Scotland’s footballers use at Hampden Stadium.
Trust chairman, Cyril Paskin, says, “Over the past 17 years we have given more than £3 million to children’s charities across the UK. When we heard about The Sunday Post’s campaign we knew we had to get involved.
“Although we started out in London, one of the first things we did after joining up with The Sunday Post was to set up a committee in Scotland. Among its responsibilities will be identifying good causes for us to help north of the border.
“Our organisation has had a long association with the Royal Air Force and we’re delighted they are backing our latest effort. The RAF are working with us to promote this boxing night, also supported by Victor Chandler and Clipper Ventures.
“We have invited a number of high-profile backers as guests, including Lennox Lewis, and his management have told us he’s considering whether it fits in with his schedule.”
