Pop video in store proves a great IKEA

THE GIANT Glasgow IKEA store has helped a boy band take its first tentative steps towards music stardom — and boosted our appeal to the tune of £1000, writes David Campbell.
The BBC had approached bosses of the Braehead store with a request to use five room sets as the backdrop for a pop video featuring the band Stamford Amp.
The five-member band was specially formed for BBC1’s The Saturday Show fronted by Dani Behr.

Shona Cardle of CHAS (centre) receives
the cheque from Ikea’s Human Resources
Business Manager Jill Burgess and
Richard Ansell, Glasgow store manager.

Each week they perform in the studio and viewers see a video of the boys in action.
IKEA agreed to the BBC’s 12-strong crew moving into the Crampton Gardens showroom area, which had been designed to show customers how to maximise limited space in their homes.
The band members were recorded singing in the sets to their track Lucky You.
IKEA waived any location fee and instead agreed that the BBC would make a donation — equivalent to the fee — to a children’s charity.
The fee was £500 — IKEA doubled it and staff voted to donate the £1000 to The Sunday Post CHAS appeal.
A spokesman said, “It was a fairly unusual request but we were delighted the producer thought the location suitable.
“The recording was made through the night, so there was no inconvenience for customers.
“We’re very happy The Sunday Post CHAS appeal will benefit as a result.”
