Help us to help them

What a dram good show!

By Colin Grant

This weekend Sunday Post readers the world over should raise a glass and toast themselves — because yet again you’ve proved you are the greatest.
Last week we offered you the chance of getting hold of a limited edition whisky miniature, specially labelled to mark the tenth anniversary of CHAS. All we asked for in return was a £5 donation to our hospice appeal.
The Bowmore Legend Islay Single Malt was supplied free of charge by Morrison Bowmore. They gave us 1000 5cl bottles in the hope of raising £5000 for the new children’s hospice which will be built on the shores of Loch Lomond.

Glasgow postman Alex Ralston was astonished
at the response to our whisky offer.

The people at Morrison Bowmore weren’t sure how much demand there would be for the bottles. Neither were we.
So we were amazed by your response. By Thursday morning we’d received nearly 750 letters. And by Friday the magic 1000 had been reached — and passed!
Matthew Mitchell, the whisky firm’s communications manager, said, “This is a testament to the generosity of The Sunday Post readers.
Delighted
“Morrison Bowmore are delighted to be part of this great fund-raising campaign as we are firm supporters of CHAS and we will underline our commitment to them at the Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair next month, when CHAS is our official charity.”
Because the demand for the miniatures has been so high we’ve had to limit the bottles to one per application. Anyone who has sent payment for more than one bottle will have the excess refunded.
Now the task of getting the bottles to you has begun. Thankfully we’ve received generous support from The Royal Mail.
Spokesperson Carol Thayne said, “We think your hospice appeal is a great thing and we’re happy to get involved.
“When we read about the whisky in last week’s paper we knew it made sense to offer you free postage, because we know that every penny you can save will go to a very deserving cause.”
