Dukes of hazard
raise £13,350

By Fiona Miller

BACK IN May, Transco decided they had to get involved in our campaign. And get involved they have — to the tune of an amazing £13,350. And that’s just for starters.
The company raised the money thanks to staff identifying and removing hazards, ranging from trailing phone cables in the office to stopping dangerous gas leaks in your street. For each hazard identified and removed, Transco make a donation to our campaign, one of their chosen causes.
Not only does this mean Transco employees are safer at work and require less time off with injuries, but they have also helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Transco decided to choose our campaign as one of their charities after asking their employees who they thought should benefit from the money.
The result was overwhelming. After reading about our appeal to build another hospice it was decided that all money raised should be divided equally between ENABLE, who work with adults and children with learning disabilities, as well as our own CHAS Hospice Challenge.
Last week, at Rachel House, Transco’s Health, Safety and Environment Manager Martin Manzi admitted the visit to the hospice left his team feeling deeply moved.
He said, “This is a very special place for the families who come here and we want to make sure our employees understand how important their efforts are to support not only Rachel House, but to raise funds for the new hospice on the banks of Loch Lomond.
“Visiting Rachel House was amazing, it is such a happy place. The employees at Transco have done brilliantly to raise £13,350 so far for The Sunday Post’s CHAS campaign and I am sure will be determined to keep up their efforts on safety and raise even more cash for such a worthy cause.”
Since 1999 through its Safety Charity Challenge Transco has raised more than £100,000 for charity by identifying and removing hazards and reducing lost time injuries to employees.
