Help us to help them

Bride said, “I do
— want to help”

NICOLA AND Ian Fletcher gave their hearts to our Hospice Appeal as well as each other on their wedding day.
The generous duo raised £2200 by asking their guests to make a donation to the appeal instead of giving a wedding present.
Beautiful bride Nicola, from Dundee, says it was an easy decision. “We thought that having gifts to mark our wedding wouldn’t be appropriate as we already felt so lucky to be getting married.
“So we decided to ask guests for a donation to charity and it was an easy decision to give the money to CHAS after reading about the hospice in The Sunday Post.

Ian and Nicola — full of pride at the
generosity of their wedding guests.

“The plight of the children is extremely troubling and we felt it would be appropriate to use our happy day as a way of helping.”
As the guests arrived at St Margaret’s church, Broughty Ferry, last month, their generosity shone as brightly as the sun that beamed down on the occasion.
Research chemist Ian, originally from London, who popped the question last year while the couple were on holiday in Ireland, says the kindness of the guests nearly brought him to his knees again.
“Family and friends came from all over the country — we even had relatives from Canada who came over and joined in by making donations.

“The combination of seeing our nearest and dearest not only supporting us but also a cause which has touched everyone’s hearts was quite emotional — even those who couldn’t make it sent a cheque.”
The happy couple spent their honeymoon in the Highlands and are now living in Newcastle, where Nicola is a primary school teacher.
She says, “Whilst Ian and I showed our commitment to each other at the altar it filled us both full of pride to think that everyone there was also making a heartfelt gesture to the Sunday Post appeal.”
